White fillings are made of a composite material that has to be cured with a special light. The shrinkage of this material can cause some discomfort. This can be particularly bad if the composite is under-cured. Proper preparation and care when curing can make this pain completely avoidable.

One problem could be that not all of the decay was properly cleaned out to repair the tooth. It could also mean that the decay went further in and root canal therapy will be needed. If there is discomfort when you are biting it may mean that the filling will need to be reshaped.
