A tooth root canal is a way of saving a dead tooth. A natural G-d given tooth is always much better than artificial one. Natural teeth are meant to last a lifetime while artificial teeth often last less than five years. In fact, modern endodontic treatment has a very high rate of success. Over 95% of all treated teeth can be kept for a lifetime with proper follow up care.
Tooth root canal treatments have dramatically changed over the past decade. You could even say that these changes are revolutionary and the treatment performed today hardly resembles what was done years ago. Most dentists are choosing to do one appointment root canal treatment. This saves the patient a great deal of time by not requiring a second root canal visit and spares the tooth the insult of harboring dead tissue for an additional week or so.
The first step in a tooth root canal is to make an entrance into the chamber containing the root canal. The top of each canal is found and widened using titanium rotary files. Titanium alloy is very strong and can easily bend without breaking so it's ideal for these files. An ultrasonic instrument is inserted in each canal to clean and widen the canal. This is done with an antibiotic gel that sterilizes the canal. An apex locator is a sonar like machine that uses sound waves to see inside the canal. Each canal is located and the apex locator is used to measure the exact length of each canal. A series of titanium rotary files widen and precisely shape each canal to aid in sealing off the entire length of the canal. New bio-compatible sealers seal the walls of the root canal and a rubber material called gutta percha is packed into each canal to create a tight fit.
