Toothache Antibiotic

toothache antibiotic

Penicillin has been used as a toothache antibiotic for dental infections since the beginning of World War II. The main problem with penicillin is that there are now lots of bacteria that are resistant to it. This means that a patient can take penicillin and the tooth infection will continue to grow and can possibly kill the patient.

Amoxicillin 500 mg is probably the most widely used toothache antibiotic used today. It is a modified penicillin. Generally dentists prescribe one week's worth of tablets to be fully effective. Most antibiotics are best taken on an empty stomach or several hours after eating. This is also true of Amoxicillin.

Our dental group believes that our patients deserve the best and aggressive toothache antibiotic therapy should be begun as soon as it is determined that there is an infection involved. There are a lot of issues with this philosophy. Primary, most health care professionals believe that if you use a strong antimicrobial, like Keflex 500mg, right away then resistant bacteria will develop sooner. Our answer is, " If this was your kid, what would you prescribe? ".
