toothache pain

Toothache pain can be mild, such as hot and cold sensitivity, to severe, such as a constant throbbing tooth pain. In most cases, the discomfort starts months or years before it gets severe. For many reasons, patients often delay their needed dental treatment and hope that the dental problem goes away. They pray to God for relief. Unfortunately, the discomfort does go away but returns later and more severely.

Toothache pain is best treated early. Teeth are primarily made of hard tissue that does not heal well so the help of a dentist is really necessary. The nerve inside a tooth is confined to the limited space available in the pulp chamber and root canals. The tissue inside the tooth has no room to swell so when it becomes inflamed and tries to swell, it can be very painful. The entrance into the tooth is limited to a very small openings at the tips of the tooth roots. It is very difficult for medicines to get into the tooth through these very small openings.

The roots of a tooth are surrounded by a periodontal ligament which holds the tooth in bone. This tooth ligament has a very limited space so that if the tissues in the ligament space swell, it raises the tooth up out of it's socket. The tooth then prematurely hits, feels high to the bite and the patient experiences toothache pain. Most patients respond automatically by grinding harder which causes more inflammation and swelling and more dental pain.

There are many toothache pain causes, but regardless of the origin of the dental problem, it is almost always best to see a dentist as soon as possible.
