white strips

There is no doubt that white strips can bleach teeth. The question is, "What is the best method to whiten your teeth?" Tooth enamel is a number of millimeters thick. A tooth whitening gel has to penetrate deeply into this enamel to achieve the full bleaching effect. The enamel on teeth is made of hydroxyapetite crystals which have spaces in between them. Organic material gets into these spaces and causes the tooth to darken.

The problem with white strips is that they are only placed on the surface of teeth for a very short time. If all the organic material in enamel is dissolved, the color returns to the tooth's natural shade. With this method, the tooth whitening gel does not go all the way into the tooth and because of this lack of penetration, patients only getting a surface effect which does not last. The strip method requires continued use to maintain your white smile.

Many patients have to continue using white strips on their teeth every week forever! That can get really expensive and very time consuming. Most professionals use the at home tray method that allows their patients to soak their teeth while they sleep. When the gel runs out, it is relatively cheap to by another tube of whitening gel. The initial investment for a professional tooth whitening is more, but it usually costs less in the long run.

If you have been repeatedly using white strips and you are sick of them, consider having your tooth whitening done with a professional tray system.
