wisdom teeth

Your wisdom teeth can be quite a hassle. A wisdom tooth is a third molar and it pushes it's way into the back of your mouth long after your other adult teeth have erupted. The problem is that there generally isn't enough room in your mouth for the tooth and this causes oral health problems if the tooth isn't taken care of early enough. A wisdom tooth can cause toothache pain and plaque build up as well as orthodontic problems, so it is best to get a wisdom tooth extraction as soon as you can.

Some wisdom teeth can be even more problematic than others. Impacted wisdom teeth come into your mouth in a matter that places even more stress on your other teeth. These teeth come in and directly hit the molar at the back of your mouth. This stress can cause tooth crowding, the teeth in your mouth to shift their positions relatively quickly. An impacted wisdom tooth can also cause damage to the roots of the second molar, and if not handled quickly enough this could mean the second molar will need to be extracted as well.

For most people the worst thing about wisdom teeth is the need for wisdom tooth extraction. Many people put off the surgery because they are afraid of it and end up needing more dental treatment because of the damage caused by the wisdom tooth. While there are risks and potential complications involved in third molar surgery thy rarely occur. Local anaesthesia numbs the patient to any pain and general anaesthesia can be used to sedate the patient as well.
